A Dentist Knows Best
There are some foods that a dentist is probably not too fond of.
One of the main duties of a dentist is to make sure that their patients maintain proper dental health. Because of this they tend to be strict about what their patients can and cannot consume. Because of this,
many people compare them to a parent. Just think about it. There are some parents who barely ever allow their kids to eat cupcakes or cake. If they do, it's only a certain amount that they can eat and it's never every day. So, some children have to sneak just to be able to get some of their favorite snacks. There are several types of foods that a dental specialist would probably not want their patients to consume in large amounts, if at all. One of these foods is sweets, such as candy. One of the things that eating too much candy can cause is cavities. Cavities are not just something that discolors the tooth. However, they can actually cause the tooth to begin to rot. When this happens, it begins to decay and either falls out or eventually needs to be pulled. So, it's clear to see why a dentist would not want any of their patients to eat large amounts of candy or any other sweets. Being responsible in this aspect will save people a lot of pain and money. Another thing that a dentist would not want their patients to consume in large amounts is soda. The sugar in sodas is one reason why they shouldn't be consumed. However, the acid that is prevalent in them is another reason why a dentist would be hesitant to allow their patients to consume this type of liquid. The acid in these drinks causes the enamel to erode away. It would be okay if the enamel could be easily restored. However, that is not the case. Once it's gone, it's usually gone forever. So, drinking sodas in excess can do a great deal of damage to the teeth. When the enamel has deteriorated the teeth can turn to a more yellowish color, which causes them to look discolored. Having discolored teeth can be quite embarrassing. So, whenever you go to the dentist and your dental professional mentions a food that you should cut back on or cut out all together, don't feel as if you are being given a bunch of unnecessary rules. However, these restrictions are made for you protection and to help ensure that you will have the proper dental health. Besides, your specialist has studied for years and has a great deal of experience when it comes to teeth. So, there's a good chance they know what is best.
