AEDs are tiny,AED's--The Specs That Matter Most Articles portable devices that examine heart rhythms, furnish on-scene operators with voice-prompted instructions and, when appropriate, can give a lifesaving shock to victims of SCA (Sudden Cardiac Arrest).

According to Richard Hamburg (director of governmental relations for the American Heart Association) "The availability of a defibrillator is a life-and-death matter for someone suffering cardiac arrest".

There are a dozen or better AEDs (Automatic External Defibrillators) available to choose from. So, what can a Zoll Defibrillator offer you that no other AED can??

Three Reasons Why You Should Choose a ZOLL Defibrillator

(Sudden Cardiac Arrest) situation, an SCA victim collapses and is unresponsive. Qualified help shows up with an AED and attaches the AED electrodes to him. Then the AED instructs everybody not to touch the victim while his heart rhythm is being analyzed.

Now things interesting...

At this point, one of two things can happen: 1) The AED will advise shock or 2) the AED will NOT advise shock - since there isn't a "shockable" rhythm.

Let me restate that: when the AED can't find a shockable rhythm, the AED won't give a shock. Rather, the AED will advise the rescuer to "Begin CPR."

Did you know... that in 57.4% of all SCA cases NO shock will be encouraged? This means that 57.4% of the time rescuers will not be able to "lean on" the AED for support. Unless...the AED provides CPR support.

When it comes to CPR support ZOLL Defibrillators are one of the best in their their class. ZOLL Defibrillators furnish step-by-step voice prompts and visual screen displays to guide rescuers through the CPR process.

This way, if the chest compressions you apply are too shallow, the ZOLL Defibrillator will tell you to "press harder". Or, if your compressions are satisfactory, the AED will say "Good compressions". The ZOLL Defibrillator is also equipped with a beeping metronome to help pace you as you apply chest compressions.

2. ZOLL Defibrillators are the most cost effective defibrillators available.

In other words, you may spend a bit more for a ZOLL Defibrillator up front. But, in the long run, you'll spend less when when it is time to replace costly batteries and AED pads.

3. In a side-by-side comparison, conducted by Harvard University, they learned that lay rescuers performed more precisely with a ZOLL Defibrillator than any other AED.
