Ayurveda is a traditional science that has been practiced for over 5,000 years,Ayurveda for Holistic Health Articles originating from India. Ayurveda literally translated from the ancient language of Sanskrit means, “ Knowledge, or the science of life.” Ayurveda focuses on the balance of the elements air, moisture, fire, and water in the body, enabling the treatment and prevention of ailments and disease.

Ayurveda is an integral part of many cultures around the world, helping people who practice Ayurveda as a lifestyle live life to the fullest.

Ayurveda is a complete science focused on the prevention and treatment of disease, ensuring that the mind, emotions, and spirit are taken into consideration. Therefore, our inner harmony, happiness, and self esteem are greatly influenced through the practice of this ancient science, cultivating peace and harmony from within.

When we apply the practice of Ayurveda, we will begin to understand how much our body types reflect who we are and how we feel about ourselves.  We can unintentionally cause our own illness, depression, and lack of self esteem with our minds.  With Ayurveda we can achieve and maintain health, emotionally and physically by balancing the three types of doshas or life forces.

The three types of doshas are representative of the different life elements and bodily characteristics, accounting for body type, personality, and temperament.

The first dosha is Vata, representing the elements air and space. It refers to the movement, space and air within the body; this involves the brain, nervous system, joints, colon, and large intestinal system.

The second dosha is Pitta, which represents fire and moisture. This dosha affects metabolism, digestion, liver, gall bladder, and small intestine.

Lastly, there is the Kapha dosha, representing earth and water. Kapha refers to the immune system, reproductive system, bones, cognitive functions, and joint lubrication.

The application of Ayurveda begins with identifying the type of constitution you have, or how the doshas are balanced in your body.  Practicing Ayurveda in accordance with your constitution works in creating an equalized environment between the doshas.  Once your body finds a healthy equilibrium, confidence, and healthy self esteem will be sure to follow.

Understanding the characteristics of the different doshas, is like understanding people’s astrological characteristics, just as Leos and Pisces have specific tendencies and pre-dispositions, recognizing the doshas in other people, can help you better understand, communicate and work with them.  This can lift stress and anxiety associated with your personal and professional life, and improve your self esteem.

Everyone wants to be happy, healthy, and lead a full life.  There are many supplements, foods, and vitamins that claim they will protect our bodies against disease. The principles of Ayurveda address the emotional, physical, and spiritual causes of disease and focuses more on prevention rather than treatment. Warding off stress and keeping your self esteem strong, along with proper nourishment, healthy diet and exercise, specific to your dosha, will provide a healthy balance that will make you your best.

Discover the benefits of Ayurveda in bettering your physical and emotional well-being and you will begin living better than you ever have before.  Ayurveda is not a new drug or a new exercise routine but a way of harmonizing the biorhythms of your body with nature and the changing seasons.  With Ayurveda, you will experience more energy, a strengthened immune system, new found health and livelihood.
