Eyelid Surgery To Improve Asian Eyes
Eyelid surgery can be used to create a fold in Asian eyes to make them look more alert and allow the use of cosmetics.
Plastic surgery is popular among all walks of life. Gone are the days when it was relegated only to those who were incredibly rich or incredibly vain. For some people it is not so much a matter of desiring to look better as it is a desire to look less ethnic. This is particularly true of some people with an Asian heritage seeking not to westernize their appearance but rather simply to look more bright-eyed and also to be able to use cosmetics. For this people there is a type of blepharoplasty,
or eyelid surgery, which can place a crease into the skin and create a less fatty overhanging appearance.
Often Asian patients who have an upper eye that is puffy or absent a crease dislike the appearance. They often have a hard time using cosmetics that other people do not have trouble applying. This is usually due to the overhanging fat or excess skin. As a result they seek to have eyelid surgery to emulate this natural crease found in most people. Almost never is the desire to change one's ethnicity. In fact if this is the motivation for having an operation care must be taken and counseling sought in order to clarify the root cause of this desire.
While the exact cause of this perceived malady is the fact that the levator muscle of attaches lower on the skin of Asian persons. This results in the skin and fat to hang lower and causes an absence or reduction in the appearance of the crease. It is therefore often a simple matter of relocating this attachment point in order to reform the appearance. Another option is to prevent the fat from descending below the desired height of the fold. There is an eyelid surgery for each of these approaches.
Without using an incision a doctor will sometimes suturing a fold into the lid using a non bio-absorbable material. This is a relatively simple procedure but requires a precise placement and a skill in creating a natural looking effect.
Another more invasive but also more natural look is to use small incision to perform eyelid surgery. Here the fat is removed from the incision site and the resulting void is sealed off.
While both of these methods are fairly effective usually a sort of hybrid procedure is recommended. This eyelid surgery combines portions of each of the other procedures. Here a portion of the fatty tissue is removed but then a suture is used to pin up to the levator and create a fold.
In either of the latter two options care must be taken not to overly refine to the point of creating a western appearance. The look of white eyes is to be avoided and as such there is often a need for multiple refinements of the original operation in order to achieve the desired effect.
