Follicular hair transplant Procedure

As the follicular units taken from the back of the scalp should not be damaged the donor tissue has to be removed in one piece.   An integral part of hair follicle transplant is single-strip harvesting as it preserves the follicular units.



Follicular hair transplant technique follows a well laid out pattern.     The microscope is used to study the follicular tissue which is removed from the donor tissue.   The follicular unit to be removed from the donor tissue is scanned by the doctor under a microscope before going for the hair transplant.  The follicular tissues are protected by this stereo microscopic dissection method.



The hair strip that is taken from one part of the body and transplanted to the bald region is the follicular hair transplant.  As the follicular unit has to be relocated from the original place it should not be damaged so the donor tissue has to be removed in one piece.The places where there is no hair growth the donor strip is transplanted there from the permanent zone -the back of the scalp.



The single-strip harvesting in follicular hair transplants ensures preservation of the follicular units and protection of individual hair follicles from possible damage. A bundle of hair growing together is called the follicular unit.    Two fine vellus hair, oil glands, small muscle and fine band of collagen surround the follicular units.    As the follicular unit is the skin bearing structure it makes sure that the hair growth is maximum.



Using the individual follicular units is highly recommended. It helps to use a very small size of hair units. A surgeon can easily place up to four hair strands in the tiny recipient site.  This process is used in the cosmetic surgery in general.   Transplantation of individual follicular units also gives a natural look to the transplanted hair.
