It has been generally observed that when the hormones act up,How Hormonal Imbalance Triggers Baldness Articles the hair could pay a great price. The process of hair growth and cycling are affected by several mechanisms in the body and hormone activity is one of these major influences. What are the ways by which hormonal imbalance trigger hair loss?

Menopause

Menopause marks the stage wherein the production of estrogen significantly decreases. While the explanation remains vague, estrogens are believed to influence hair growth. Another possible connection between low estrogen and hair loss is the male hormone. Especially when women are genetically predisposed, there is less estrogen that fights against DHT build-up in the scalp follicles. Dihydrotestosterone or DHT is the cause of androgenetic alopecia or pattern baldness.

Health issues that basically affect the hormone activity can also trigger hair loss. Two of the common conditions are hypothyroidism, a condition characterized by the low production of thyroid hormones and diabetes, the condition marked by an increase in the body’s sugar supply.

Pregnancy

Among other changes in the body, notice how the hair becomes unusually vigorous during pregnancy? Experts believe it to be one of the effects of the rise of estrogen and progesterone levels during pregnancy. The female hormones can prolong the growth phase and shorten the shedding phase. However, the toll with the change in the hair growth cycle may be experienced after pregnancy. After child delivery, the frozen shedding phase resumes, causing massive hair thinning in the process.

Contraceptive Pills

Not all contraceptive pills are formulated equal. Some of them can actually promote hair growth like Diane 35 ED and Yasmin. However, older pills such as Loette and Levlen have a male hormonal effect on the hair. More often than not, high-androgen index pills can cause hair loss.

Treating hair loss and thinning can be a challenge but with the help of a scientifically proven effective treatment, it can be less of a chore.
