During pregnancy a woman may experience excessive blood sugar levels in her body. This may cause special types of diabetes in pregnant women which is known as gestational diabetes. It usually happens between the 24th and 28th week of pregnancy. It is very similar to type 2 diabetes and can be controlled by dietary modifications. In order to keep women protected from gestational diabetes various types of sample diets for gestational diabetes have been designed.

These sample diets are designed to encourage a balanced diet that contains carbohydrates,Sample Diet For Gestational Diabetes: 2 Easy Menus To Last All Day Articles proteins and healthy fats. These diets help to produce enough calories and energy that are needed for the developing baby. They also help to maintain the health and strength of the mother.

Here are two sample diets for gestational diabetes. Both the diets have a different break down. The first diet involves a breakfast that consists of about 2 slices of whole grain toast with 2 tablespoons of peanut butter. Also included is a ½ cup of 100% juice. Then there is a mid-morning snack consisting of 1 apple and a cup of cottage cheese.

The next in the diet is lunch consisting of a cup of lentil soup or any other bean. Also included is a single serving of whole grain crackers with about two ounces of low fat cheese. It also includes a single cup of baby carrots.

After the lunch a mid-afternoon snack is included with around 20 raw almonds and a cup of grapes. Then comes the last meal of the day- the dinner! It can include about 6 ounces of fish, with a cup of steamed broccoli and a cup of brown rice. It has to be taken with a cup of reduced-fat milk. If the mother feels like having an evening snack she can have five cups of air-popped plain popcorn.

So that's one choice:

The second sample diet involves a breakfast with 2 scrambled egg whites and a whole scrambled egg. Also included are a whole wheat English muffin with a teaspoon of margarine or butter and a slice of melon.

The mid-morning snack has about 6 ounces of yoghurt and about 1/4 cup of low fat granola. Then comes the lunch, it has two slices of whole grain bread as well as 2 ounces of sliced turkey or chicken. Also included are a slice of cheese, lettuce leaves and tomato slices with a tablespoon of either mayonnaise or mustard. Also to be taken are an apple and a cup of reduced fat milk.

There also is a mid-afternoon snack. It includes ¼ cup of hummus and a single cup of raw vegetables. For the evening snack a smoothie is included. It has to be prepared with a single cup of reduced-fat milk and ½ cup strawberries mixed with crushed ice.

The dinner includes five ounces of grilled chicken breast with a single cup of steamed carrots or any other vegetable. It also includes a small baked sweet potato with around two tablespoons of sour cream.

These two types of a sample diet for gestational diabetes if followed properly can help both the mother as well as the developing child.
