The Evolution of the Hearing Aid Through The Years

Although society tends to make those who have to use assistive aid devices feel uncomfortable by drawing attention the prosthetic, with the rapid advancement of technology, it is becoming harder to tell when someone is wearing one.

There are many different kinds of devices that are available now that once were not available in the past. First, there was the microphone that was attached to a battery that helped people hear a little more than they currently could. A little over 50 years later, there were the devices that had inducers and were worn inside the ear. They were just large enough to be seen around the base of the ear of the person wearing them.

Now we have the use of computer science and artificial intelligence. Instead of having to wear a device that requires the human brain to try and make adjustments so that a person can hear better, now the actual hearing aids have computer chips in them that continuously makes adjustments every minute to give the wearer a better experience and make it even easier for them to hear.

Now with the assistive devices of today, it is impossible to tell when someone has one on if they do not tell you. They come so small that they can fit in the ear canal and no one would be the wiser to the fact that it was there. In many cases, if a person's onset of hearing loss is caught early enough, no one will be the wiser about their condition.

In the event of severe permanent hearing loss, when surgery is not a good option, a person can use a device to regain a portion of their lost ability. If you or someone you know has trouble with their speech, understanding things or making conversation, have them get their hearing checked. If it turns out that they need some assistance, the staff at a good hearing center can make things much easier for them and help to pick out the proper device and teach them how to use it. Although they may have suffered degradation in their body's natural sense, but with the aid of technology; they will be able to still retain the ability.
