Today,A Review of Alternatives to Office Chairs Articles back pain and posture problems have become one of the most prevalent heath issues because most people now spend all their work day slouching on an office chair. With the public awareness on health hazards of improper posture growing, ergonomics experts and furniture manufacturers try to offer solutions that will allow the office workers to do their job without harming their health. Ergonomic chairs are the most popular measure in this regard because they give the best blend of comfort, productivity, wellness and design. Yet, a number of alternatives have been proposed that could replace the office chairs as seats.

One truely unique idea for a work place setting that cares for the heath of the employee is to put away the desk and the seat for good and install a treadmill desk. While on a treadmill desk you have to walk constantly or stand up during work. This can make the person burn an insane amount of calories throughout the day and obviate any visits to the local fitness center for the rest of your life. Moreover, you will never put any pressure on your spine because it is virtually impossible to bend over while you are walking.

Another great office chair alternative that is also very popular in geek circles, is called the standing desk. As the name explains, it is a desk with no chair and its height can be adjusted to give you the most comfortable standing position to work. Like the treadmill, you can hardly ever bend yourself when working on this but standing can also take its toll on your body after some time. That is why experts advise you to bring down the desk height a few times a day and rest on your good office chair for a few minutes, each time.

An exercise ball is definitely the funniest thing you could possibly use instead of a chair. Normally used for Yoga and other exercise sessions, the exercise ball is a 40-inch,  fluffy spherical object that comes in many colors. The trick about the ball is engaging your core. It is so hard to keep your balance on it that you can never relax. You have to keep changing your position so that you do not fall down and that will fatigue your abdominal muscles before long. The exercise ball sounds promising but because of its rather informal image, there is some contravery on whether it is good for replacing an office chair.

To conclude, reading through tomes of office chair reviews is not your destiny if you need new ergonomic seats in your office. The alternatives discussed here are only a few of the many. That said, careful consideration is a must before you give up on the regular office chairs.
