Know the different types of carpets, and what they are made of.

A carpet is derived from an Armenian word ‘karpet’,Type of Carpets Articles kar means knot or stitch. A carpet is a term used in any felted textile, floor coverings, table coverings, and wall coverings.

 

Woven Carpet This type of carpet is produced on a loom similar to woven cloth. It is also very expensive due to its operation cost.

Tufted Carpet It is a type of carpet that is produced on a tufting machine. The yarn used is either single colored or non-colored. If the yarn used is non-colored, the carpet will be dyed or have a pattern printed on them.

Needlefelt Carpet This type of carpet is more technologically advanced. It is produced by the electrostatic attraction of individual fibers. It is one of the durable carpets and highly used in high traffic areas in the home or office.

Flatweave Carpet This type of carpet is very popular in Japan and the orient. It is produced by interlocking warp and weft threads.

Hooked Rug It is also known as a handicraft because it is handmade and created by pulling strips of cloth through meshes of a sturdy fabric.

Knotted Pile A structural weft thread alternates with a supplementary weft thread that will rise from the surface at a perpendicular angle.


Carpet Fibers and Yarns

1. Wool or Wool with Synthetic Fibers

-very durable, expensive, and can be dyed easily.

2. Nylon

-varies in price depending on the price of the oil, can be dyed topically or dyed in a molten state, can be printed easily.

3. Polypropylene

-cheap, difficult to dye, recommended for light use only.

4. Polyester

-has good physical properties, stain resistant, dyed in a molten state.

5. PTT (Polytrimethylene terephthalate)

-also known  as Sorona, 3GT, and Corterra; more crush resistant, resilient, and easy to clean; dyed in a molten state, resistant to mold and dries easily.

1. Cut Pile

-it is a type of carpet with cut loops, very popular, and durable.

a. Frieze

-the fibers have a twisted and curly nature, can be used in high traffic areas.

b. Saxony

-can be used in high traffic areas, creates a look in between of casual and formal.

c. Plush

-also known as velvet cut pile, has a smooth texture, creates a very luxurious look.

2. Cut and Loop Pile

-it is a combination of cut and loop fibers, creates a more decorative look.

3. Level Loop Pile

-it is a carpet that has loops at the same height, very durable.

4. Multi-Level Loop Pile

-has different heights in the loop, durable.

1. Wall to Wall Carpets

-this covers the entire floor of a room, energy efficient when it comes to insulating a room, frequently used to hide worn-out or broken floors, initial cost expensive.

2. Carpet Squares

-also known as carpet tiles, should be professionally installed.

3. Area Rugs

-it is very popular in adding some style in a room.

4. Scatter Rugs

-used in high traffic areas such as kitchen sink or an entrance way.

5. Carpet Runners

-usually found in a hallway.
