'Long live Nirbhaya', 'Bharat Mata ki Jai'! Slogans chanted outside Tihar Jail

At 3:30 AM when the convicts were woken up, they finally came to grips with the reality of their awaiting death. As the clock struck 5.30 AM on Friday, the crowd assembled outside the Tihar Jail burst into celebration and even distributed sweets. The convicts were finally hanged.   Security was beefed up outside the Tihar Jail Number 3 where the four convicts — Mukesh Singh (32), Pawan Gupta (25), Vinay Sharma (26) and Akshay Kumar Singh (31) — were hanged.They were hanged at 5.30 am, Director General of Prison Sandeep Goel said.      Slogans of ‘Nirbhaya zindabad’ and ‘live long Nirbhaya’ were also raised.   Bodies of four Nirbhaya case convicts have been taken out of Tihar Jail for post-mortem at DDU Hospital. The four men - Mukesh Singh (32), Pawan Gupta (25), Vinay Sharma (26) and Akshay Kumar Singh (31), sentenced for the assault and murder of a Delhi lady on December 16, 2012 were hanged at 5.30 am on Friday, finishing an awful part in India's long history of rape that had burned the country's spirit.
