Audemars opened its first branch in Geneva in 1889 and has since grown steadily and become more famous. In 1925 Audemars Piguet introduced the world’s thinnest pocket watch at a mere 1.32 millimetres and only three years later they created the first skeleton watch. Today Audemars is one the top four Swiss watch makers and every timepiece that is manufactured in-house is still made using the old-fashioned hand-made technique.
Fourty years ago Audemars Piguet broke all the rules of fine watch making when they introduced the ground-breaking design of the Royal Oak. It was given this name in honour of British Royal navy battleships. The Royal Oak was the first luxury sports watch in Haute Horlogerie. The audemars piguet royal oak is a revolutionary timepiece and is immediately recognisable due to the state-of-the-art strongbox case, octagonal bezel, visible water resistance gaskets and dials adorned with exclusive engine-turned Grande Tapisserie” motif. In an era where gold was considered the only high-end option for watches the Royal Oak was a gamble which paid off and gave birth to one of Audemars Piguet’s most iconic watch.
Breguet was founded in 1775 by Abraham-Louis Breguet, he set the standard by which all fine watchmaking has been judged. Due to the connections he made during his time as an apprentice watchmaker his watches were soon commissioned by the likes of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. Breguet produce both men and women’s watches. Today, Breguet still make each watch as a model of supreme horological art and its inventions have left an indelible print on watchmaking history.
