1). Identify your function in the organization.

What is the key result that the company pays you? It is the contribution why you have been hired. If you are a sales person your function is “Selling Product”, if you are a nurse your function is caring people, if you are a teacher your function is teaching the students.

2). Turn your function into a clear and specific goal.

If you are a sales person and your function is “selling product” then you may want to set your goal such “Sell 10 items per week”.

The goal should be clear enough to interpret. It should enable you to know any specific action or chores to achieve it.

The goal may be the most critical part in prioritizing task. Through the goal you will know the end result that you wish to achieve, the goal create you a clear limitations of the task that you must do, should do, or nice to do, the goal enables you to determine whether or not one task will count to the goal. The goal is the basis of your prioritization.

3). Break down the goal into a list of tasks.

Your list should contain a sequence of task that will take you closer to the goal achievement. This is your guideline to get through your day. Your list will become a reference to filter any new tasks that come to you. It avoids you from feeling confuse to choose any tasks that you should do in each time you pass.

The list is where you will devote your time and resource. It is your priority. You can eliminate, delay or cancel any tasks that do not belong to the list.

4). Say no.

Refuse any asking helps from the others if you are completing your tasks. Concentrate fully to your own. If you wish to help the others tell that you whelp him after you complete your own tasks. If you wish to help the others tell that you will help him after you complete you own tasks.

Rejecting the others does not mean you are cruel. You need to save your own tasks and be discipline with your own schedule & deadline. There will be the right time when you should help the others but not by sacrificing your own tasks.

Be polite to say it. You still need to maintain your relationship. Tell your objection clearly and complete it with any logic reason they will understand.
