Condoms are one of the most common types of contraceptives (birth control). A condom acts as a shield to deplete the chances of pregnancy. There is no dearth of types of condoms nowadays. Looking at the diverse range of condoms available in the market, choosing the right kind of condom could be confusing. While buying a condom, the foremost factor you will have to keep in mind is looking for whether the condom has been accredited by the FDA or not. The accreditation is an assurance that the condom prevents unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases (STD). Condoms are broadly classified into two forms:

  • Male Condoms: Male condoms are the most popular medium of contraception across the world. There are innumerable male condom brands across the world. These are the easiest form of contraception for a safe and protected sexual intercourse. These render protection against unwanted pregnancies along with the risk of sexually transmitted diseases or infections. Condoms are simple to use, but one needs to be careful of possible wear and tear.
  • Female Condoms: These are relatively less popular, but are an effective method of contraception. A latex pouch or polyurethane is fitted inside the vagina to prevent conception. It is designed and developed in a way that it fits conveniently in the vagina. It has a flexible ring at the closed end and a larger ring at the open end that keep secretions from the male sex organ away from the vagina and cervix.

Mentioned below are various types of condoms available nowadays:

  • Flavoured Condoms: Over the last few years, flavoured condoms have become immensely popular. Some of the popular flavours of condoms include strawberry, orange, chocolate, mint, cola and vanilla.
  • Thin Condoms: These are developed using a sheerlon material, which appears like a second skin. These types are most commonly preferred as they seem more natural than other condoms because of their thin layer. In spite of the thin protective layer, thin condoms are highly effective against pregnancy and STDs.
  • Warming Condoms: Warming condom is made up of thin latex, which alleviates sensation owing to its warming lubricant. The lubricant heats up when it comes in touch with body temperature. Apart from providing heat, it improves sensual pleasure and enhances sexual pursuit.
  • Glow in dark condom: One of the most innovative types of condoms available today is the glow in dark condom, which lights up when exposed to light for about 30 seconds. This non-toxic condom has three layers, wherein the inner and outermost layer is made up of latex and the middle layer contains safe pigments that glow in the dark.
