Even for the richest American men, marrying a Russian or Brazilian woman with model beauty and professional education is more or less easy. The Internet has simplified the method of finding a bride who is younger, taller, prettier, smarter, sexier, and better-educated than you can attract at home.
Middle class American men have a long history of sending for so-called mail order brides to provide wives for rural areas,
mining camps, soldiers, and factory laborers. Times have changed.
The girl next door can now live anywhere on the planet - from Moscow to Beijing to Manila.
Despite the fact that I believe this to be the golden era of email order brides - and not a way for nerdy or abusive adult males to exploit disadvantaged or compliant women - I think the opening will be closing inside 5 to 10 years.
Here's why:
1. Oil
Governments lie when it comes to oil reserves, peak oil, and future prices for gasoline. We don't know how high costs will go.
Electricity would be able to be generated for your home or electric vehicle from photo voltaic, wind, or geothermal resources, but airplanes require gasoline. Lots of it.
International travel by passenger jet may well become extremely expensive and out of the reach of a average man looking for a mail order bride.
2. IMBRA
The International Marriage Broker Regulation Act of 2005 (IMBRA) involves background checks on American men planning to file immigrant or fiancee visa petitions for foreign women - if they were introduced through an international marriage agency.
Some dating agencies (Yahoo!, Match.com) are exempt.
An International Marriage Broker (IMB) is an agent or agency - U.S. or foreign based - that offers matchmaking or social referrals connecting U.S. citizens/permanent residents and foreign nationals for a fee.
Allegedly to protect foreign brides after the high profile murder of Anastasia King, all it does is take away privacy, free speech, and freedom of assembly from American men.
International Marriage Brokers are required to:
- examine U.S. sex offender public registries for information on the U.S. clients
- collect criminal and marital background information on the American man, including how prior marriages ended
- provide this information to the foreign bride in her native language
- provide foreign clients with a government produced pamphlet detailing her legal rights in the United States
- obtain the foreign client's signed consent to give her personal information to the U.S. client
- limit of 2 fiance(e) visa petitions with at least 2 years between filings
All of these restrictions apply to IMB arranged matches, so there are numerous ways around the law.
As the world economy gets worse, anticipate even more restrictive immigration laws.
Since passage of IMBRA, foreign brides have been murdered - by husbands who met their brides via exempt agencies.
American men are being vilified worldwide to satisfy a feminist agenda.
No state investigates American men for disclosure to American women prior to issuance of a marriage license. And there is that pesky Constitution (what's still enforced).
Noble intentions often create bad law. IMBRA is a poster child for pointless and flawed regulations.
If gay marriage becomes law and opens same-sex spouses to immigration benefits, you can expect Congress to make it exceptionally difficult for anyone to bring a spouse home.
Find your Russian, Colombian, or Filipina mail order wife before it becomes an impracticable ordeal.
3. American Men Are Still Valued Abroad
For a lot of foreign women, American husbands are nonetheless considered a good catch and a desirable match. Go figure.
I'm not sure if I am pleased or frightened.
Many foreign women view American men as better husband material, and not just on a financial level. Hollywood films showing women's equality inside marriage and relationships have no doubt added to the perceptions.
After a divorce, the Internet lets a man encounter a stunningly gorgeous woman of the right age, occupation, and education before initiating contact.
My recommendations:
For more youthful men, ladies from Russia, the Ukraine, and the former Soviet Republics, are the sexiest and most beautiful females on the planet.
Go for it. Don't apologize or settle. One will see so many who are the right age, well-educated, and whose appearance blow you away.
Caveat - look at the age differences. For Russian women, a 10 to 15 year age difference should not be an issue. Larger age contrasts will feed your ego but may well trigger problems down the road.
For older or more conventional gentlemen, nothing beats the Philippines. Filipinas are the most religious, family oriented ladies I have ever lived among.
Age differences are less of an issue in the Philippines. As a rule, Filipinas stay married until the husband throws her out. While a Vice-Consul in Manila, I approved visas for wives 50+ years younger than their American husbands.
For men who get retirement pensions or Social Security, I would think about living out my retirement in the Philippines with a young bride. Her country could be a better place to reside. And a "fixed income" in the P.I. is a beautiful thing.
Golden Age:
I believe the window for winning your mail order wife will close within 5 to 10 years. Act before costs and added government regulations further restrict your freedom.
The public stock of American men will never be higher.
You will never be able to attract a more desirable wife or mother for your children.
For the reasons brought up, you will never be able to be a focus for women of current mail order bride quality ever again.
Before governments as well as busybodies once again interfere in the course of love, marriage, and family, grab your ideal mail order wife.
Dating, romance, and marriage will be changed forever.
