Can get a VPN in China?

Yes, as an expat in China I can tell you that its actually pretty easy to get a VPN in China.  Though you might think that if the Chinese government is blocking social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, that they would also be able to efficiently block VPN sites - the don't.  Not all the time anyway.  Though some of the bigger sites that provide VPN services to users in China have been cut off in the past year, their are still tons of sites that are available, to both Chinese and Foreign users.  Is it legal?Last I read, it was totally legal to use virtual private networks in China.  The official statement from the government said something about being able to use VPNs as long as it was for legitimate purposes.  This is very vague, I know.  There's not much you can do about that.  I remember thinking before I came to china that if I tried to access blocked sites that I would get my computer confiscated, or get called into the police station to explain what I was doing on Facebook. This is not case at all. Not only does everyone use VPNs in China, but when you're using a VPN, there's no record at all of what sites you've been to, so there's nothing to worry about.To find a VPN service in China, you can do a Google search.  There are tons that are available.  You can search for stuff like "cheap VPN in China" or "best VPN in China", and you'll see that there are about four or five services that consistently turn up.  Choose one and try it out for a week or so.  Most services come with a money back guarantee that means if it doesn't work up to your standards, you can give it back.As for all those confusing VPN protocols (PPTP, L2TP, OpenVPN, SSTP), it's pretty much like this.  If you use a mobile phone like Android or iPhone, you should use PPTP or L2TP if its available and your company supports China.  Some versions of these VPNs don't work in China - and some VPN providers have special versions that work in China.  OpenVPN will work with all operating systems (not phones) and SSTP is for Vista and Win 7. It's as simple as that!
