Seventy years ago,Pocket watch – Reviving the glories of the past Articles it was a very common sight to see men dressed in elegant waistcoats and flipping their pocket watch out of their pockets to check the time. That type of watch has long gone out of fashion, being discarded with the horse and buggy and the waistcoat, but today they are revered as valuable collectors’ items and often fetch a high price in the market among collectors who have a very good idea of what these watches are worth.

If someone still insists on owning a pocket watch in this day and age, it is because they have great taste and are still appreciative of historical items. Many classic watches can be easily acquired at very low prices and can very easily fit your budget. You can very easily buy an American watch going back to the 19thcentury for prices so low that you never believed were possible, with the craftsmanship matching what you find on even the most modern watches these days. Many high-profile watch manufacturers and antique watch dealers also offer watches for sale, but admittedly these watches are very expensive and one will have to pay an arm and a leg to buy one of these. One can however now observe a trend in the watch industry in which several well known watch manufacturers are trying to revive interest in pocket watches by bringing out models for sale, and it is a great pity that other names in the industry are too slow to catch on.

There were one or two well reputed players who were very well known for the model of watches they sold, and there were very other companies that could ever match the quality of a pocket watch that these companies were known for. Unfortunately, as wrist watches become more and more popular and as the Great Depression set in and people’s spending powers started depleting, pocket watches gradually fell out of favor and manufacturers started to discontinue the models they offered for sale.

Some companies however continued their production, albeit on a much limited scale, never compromising on the standards of quality that had won them their reputations in the past. While pocket watches do not really have much use today, they are very popular collectors’ items and many discerning collectors do not mind how much they have to pay in order to get the pocket watch that they want.
