You may opt for a LED flashlight that is just bright enough or is super bright. Basically you need to choose the correct level of light and this would depend on your intended task. In case you have too bright light at night when you are at a campsite or while doing a night walk, it can destroy your night vision. Also, do remember that brighter the light; more will be the battery power that you will need.

You can decide between a floodlight and a spotlight. This depends on whether you need an area light to make the whole area lit up, or just close-up lighting in order to do chores. Or else, you may need a LED flashlight to see things that are far away. A good floodlight is one that covers a wide area. There is no point in having one that lights a big spot in the centre. You should be able to see around you without moving the LED flashlight much. If you are looking for a spotlight, then it will have a well defined hotspot but cover very little area around. This means that in case you wish to see an object that is on the side, then you would have to move your flashlight around.

The batteries for a LED flashlight come in several common sizes. These range from small to big. Thus you can find these in coin type, AAA, AA, besides C, D, and 9-volt. You get these as alkaline batteries, as well as lithium cells. Do remember that larger batteries tend to last much longer than the smaller batteries. You would need the smaller batteries for using in the smaller sized lights. Nearly all of these battery sizes are available as rechargeable batteries. These cost much lesser to operate. It is just that these have to be recharged frequently.

You may choose the size of your LED flashlight depending on the usage. While the large LED flashlight will provide long lasting light, it will be much heavier as well as bigger. You need to keep this in mind while buying a large flashlight. The smaller LED flashlight will make use of AA or AAA cells. This will be lighter in weight and can be even kept in your pocket. But such a flashlight will have a much shorter battery life. You may make use of coin cell lights for your key chains. Just keep in mind that their light will be much dimmer.
