DirecTV has only one exclusive brand of satellite TV systems and components that they carry and that name is Hughes. Hughes is name brand top of the line satellite systems and components and this is just one of the many things that separate DirecTV from all of the other TV programming service providers.

While other service provider have chosen to provide their customers with the cheapest satellite systems that they could obtain in mass from overseas manufacturers,Your Choice of Hughes Satellite Receivers from DirecTV Articles DirecTV has chosen to go with the well recognized Hughes reputation for quality and reliability. Every satellite TV programming service provider is going to give you a free satellite system when you sign on to an extended programming agreement now and the satellite TV system is yours to keep and own, just the same as if you had bought it.

This might seem like a fantastic deal on the surface, but if it is cheap electronics equipment that is prone to malfunction, then it not such a great deal after all. Once the limited warranty wears off then it is your baby to repair or replace and if you do neither, then you are stuck paying for a programming package that you can’t watch.

Going with the recognized Hughes name assures you that your system and receiver or receivers are going to be there for you for years to come. DirecTV’s base model no frills receiver that comes with their entry level programming package is called the Hughes Director. It is a high quality Hughes receiver, but it doesn’t have all the features that come on other Hughes receivers that DirecTV carries.

If you have an entry level programming package, you won’t need the custom menu feature or the programming search feature as well. One other feature option that the Hughes Director doesn’t have is DVR but you can get that on the next level up in Hughes receivers and there is no service charge for upgrading you receiver at any time.

The Hughes Executive model receiver is the next level up and it is equipped to handle programming packages with hundreds of channel options. The Executive model receiver comes loaded with great features and also has the option of Standard DVR or DVR Powered by TiVo. With DVR Powered by TiVo, instant slow motion replays are right at your finger tips. This is a fantastic feature for sports enthusiasts and TV also allows you to zip right past any annoying commercials that come on during your games.

With TiVo you also can stop any game or program and then restart it right where it left off when you return to your TV. The DVR in the Executive model receiver holds a full one-hundred hours of recording time and that adds up to be well over four solid days

DirecTV gives you the choice of two high definition Hughes receivers. One of them is a basic model just like the Hughes Director only its high definition. The other high definition receiver is just like the Hughes Executive model receiver and has all of the same features and options. They both receive both standard and high definition programming and it also holds a total of one-hundred and twenty-five hours of recoded programming.
