Rough itinerary:

Once you are well-settled in, take a walk to the Jaisalmer fort. Explore the majestic view of the golden city from the cannon point. If you are lucky, your partner and you could be the only ones at this point as many tourists are busy taking the guided tour.

Then head to the Bada Bagh cenotaphs and admire the historic architecture there. From there, you can move on to the Gadisar Lake for a quiet, romantic evening by the water.

If you are a religious couple, then your next day should be reserved for the Tanot Mata temple. Take the 2-hour desert drive which is the most scenic desert route you will see. Vast stretches of desert with no signs of anything but brown sand with the odd village once in a while will make you feel like your partner and you are the only ones in the whole wide world. Pay your respects and seek the Goddesses’ blessings at the Tanot Mata temple and head back.

The next day, you can drive down to Sam or Khuri for another amazing experience worth cherishing – a cold night in the middle of the desert under the stars. If you like cultural activities and tented stays, you can head to the Sam sand dunes where several packages are available (your hotel will help you with the bookings) inclusive of food, folks singing and dancing activities and night stay. If you are interested in a slightly more rustic and secluded experience, head to the Khuri village which is about 50 km from Jaisalmer. Here, you will be taken on a camel safari from the village to the sand dunes where you can enjoy the most romantic sunset you will ever see! You can sit with your partner on the sand dunes and watch the sun go down as the color of the sky changes from blue to various shades of orange. Few landscapes in the world come close to being as romantic as this one!

This is followed by a meal cooked by your camel riders, who usually put up at a distance in the desert to give you enough privacy. Once you are done with dinner, they set up your bed consisting of nice warm mattresses and thick, comfortable rugs on the sand where you can lie down gazing at the stars for as long as you like. When you wake up the next morning, they serve you tea and parantha before the ride back.

With so many options for great stay, food and activities, doesn’t Jaisalmer look like a terrific choice for honeymooners? Let us know what you think.
