Carson, California is located in the southern region of Los Angeles County. The weather is almost always beautiful in Carson and it is convenient to the major freeways and lots of great attractions and activities.
Carson can be found just 13 miles south of the downtown Los Angeles area. Carson is also is less than a half hour’s drive from Santa Monica, Long Beach, Beverly Hills and Anaheim. A short 20 minute drive from the Los Angeles International Airport, Carson has been incorporated since 1968 and has a population of close to 90,000 people. Carson is often most known for being the home of the Chivas USA and Los Angeles Galaxy. These two major league soccer teams play in the Home Depot Center in Carson. The city of Carson does not skimp on parks and recreations. There are more than 15 well-kept parks and several different public pool facilities. The Dominguez Aquatic Center, located on Santa Fe Avenue, for example has an adult pool, an activity pool and a kiddie pool. Here you will also find shade and water spray structures as well as a couple of water slides. There is also the Hemingway Aquatic Center on San Pedro Street that has 16.5 dueling water slides, spray structures and separate kiddie and adult pools.
Another great Carson city park is Anderson Park. This large park, located on Wilmington Avenue, has a Frisbee golf course, a wading pool an several picnic areas. Here you can also enjoy the outdoor amphitheater, which hosts many free concerts and other events throughout the year. On Diamonddale Drive you will find a smaller park called Mills Park. This is a great place to take the family for a picnic as there is a great picnic area, wading pool, Frisbee golf course and two large playgrounds. If you brought your skateboard, be sure to find Veteran’s Park located on Moneta Avenue. This large park has a 10,000 square foot skate park that features a 4 foot horseshoe bowl and a 4 foot capsule. Carson Skate Park offers both street skating terrain as well as a small scale terrain loop.
One of the Carson attractions that many locals think is the most fun is Go Kart World. This huge complex features six separate go-kart tracks, an arcade room, bumper car track, a kiddie go-kart track and a great restaurant. Located just off Interstate 405, on Recreation Road, this fun spot has been voted many times as the absolute best go-kart destination in the Los Angeles area. Even celebrities like Andrew Garcia and Kanye West have been know to enjoy a fun day at Go Kart World, so keep a close eye for celebrities racing around the track!
Carson is home to the International Printing Museum, a must see for history buffs or those who have a love for the printed word. This museum is located on Torrance Boulevard and holds an incredible collection of historic equipment used for the graphic arts. In fact, the International Printing Museum in Carson has one of the largest collections of this type of memorabilia. If you want to visit this museum, you will need to plan ahead as it is only open on Saturdays from 10 in the morning until 4pm.
Just six miles west of Carson, you will find the Redondo Beach Pier. This recently renovated pier has a lot to offer; from nightlight and shopping to dining and outdoor activities, there is definitely something for everyone at The Pier. Also be sure to visit the Redondo Beach Pier calendar when planning your trip because there are often festivals and free entertainment events held on the pier throughout the year. Some of the fun outdoor activities that you can enjoy at the pier, and other area beaches, include kayaking, scuba, surfing and paddle boarding.
