On my last visit to Europe,Michelin Star Restaurants : World famous for their exclusiveness Articles I enjoyed the true hospitality of a Michelin star restaurant. I was unaware of them but my overseas business partner took me to that restaurant. At first, I was amazed to see the level of ambiance and atmosphere within. After returning back to hotel, I started my research on such type of restaurant. Somewhere I come to know about this restaurant rating system. The Michelin Guide is a series of annual guide books published by Michelin for over a dozen countries. The term generally refers to the Michelin Red Guide, the oldest and best-known European hotel and restaurant guide, which awards the Michelin stars. If you’re in Europe, it is advised to give your taste bud a delightful experience by having a lunch or dinner at one of the Michelin star restaurants.

In European continent, gastronomy goes hand in hand with the Michelin Guide. The guide, recently resurfaced the Guide Rouge, is a renowned institution among chefs, restaurateurs, culinary experts, and the dining public. It was brought up in 1900 by the Michelin Tyre Company and began primarily as a technical resource for helping people to travel.  By the 1930s, it had evolved into a tourist guide and has since been converted into a gastronomy guide. The Guide Rouge sells about 1.2 million copies annually in eight countries. The Michelin star system in Europe is the best-known and most widely acclaimed ranking system for high-quality or haute cuisine restaurants.

How these Michelin star restaurants are selected and by whom? A rigorously selected and trained team of food inspectors visit the Michelin-recommended establishments and decide whether or not they will go into the guide. Michelin always focus on the independence of the guide. Contrary to some competitors' versions, all meals and accommodations used by its inspectors are fully paid for by the Michelin organization. Michelin assures creativity and exclusivity within the restaurant sector and averts standardisation by NOT creating a written criterion for what constitutes the quality level required for the different star levels. The Michelin Guide is also set apart by its emphasis on consistency of quality and tradition.

The rating for Michelin star restaurants is done by highly skilled chefs, often referred to as “celebrity chefs”. In Europe, there is great significance of Michelin star rating system and has a huge influence on restaurant choice for gourmets and followers of haute cuisine. There are 26 "3-star" restaurants in France and only 81 in the world.
