Genuine mediumship is a process during which communication between the world of the living and the spirit realm is facilitated by a medium,Genuine Mediums Articles or channel. As a rule, this communication will consist of loved ones who have passed away convey messages, often simply in the shape of feelings or emotions, to reassure their living loved ones that they are well and happy.

There are some ways in which to determine whether mediumship is genuine or not. One of the first points to look out for is the amount of compensation a medium will ask for in exchange for their services. An extortionate amount is often a good sign that the person offering their help as a medium is in it for the money, with little regard for the reality of a person's grief. Someone offering to remove curses or spells put onto a person after a candle, charm or potion has been purchased should equally be treated with utmost care, as this is often a way to rip off those who are desperate and wish to do anything to obtain some form of guidance and help.

Mediumship can also never guarantee that contact can and will be made. Dealing with the spirit world is not that simple and anyone who offers a guarantee that they will be able to contact any spirit, let alone a specific person, is making promises they could not possibly keep and would therefore not make if they were genuine. A genuine medium will try to contact specific individuals, but is unable to promise success, as this will ultimately depend on the spirits and their ability and willingness to communicate.

There are some guiding principles to genuine mediumship. These principles basically state that a medium will clearly demonstrate their ability to communicate with the very real spirit world by providing evidential information. This evidence should be given to the enquiring individual as statements of fact, as opposed to involving them in a game of questions and answers, which may ultimately be simply a way to glean information from the enquirer and will then be used to convince them that what is being said or done is real.

Furthermore, genuine mediumship typically involves the medium adequately describing the gender and appearance, as well as the passing conditions of the spirit they are supposed to be communicating with. They should also be able to describe the spirit's relationship with the enquirer, relaying personal memories and shared experiences only the departed and the enquirer would know about. As a whole, mediumship consists of conveying messages of love, healing, caring and well being. They should be inspiring, rather than being regarded as solid advice, which is something few spirits will offer.
