The auto’s pedal is a lever made of steel that is pressed down by the driver’s foot. This pushing down emits force to the master cylinder via a metal rod. This foot motion action also turns on the brake lights through the electronic wiring system of the vehicle.

The master cylinder is made up a few parts including a fluid reservoir. The fluid reservoir contains the brake fluid which is moved via the piston, another component of the master cylinder. The fluids then go through the lines and into the wheel cylinder, also referred to as the caliper.

Disc brakes are usually found on all front wheels and tires although they are also found on rear ones, as well. Another option of stopping devices found in the back are called drums.

Pads have force applied to them by all of the previous actions just mentioned. They are usually made of metal or some other hard material. These pads must be heavy duty and able to withstand high temperatures and substantial pressure. The reason there is heat is due to the friction which occurs as pads press against the rotor in order to stop the car.

Rotors are another part of the machinery that runs a vehicle. They also must be sturdy enough to withstand high levels of heat. They are usually made from cast iron, which is what many fire resistant pots and pans are made from. These devices must be strong and thick enough or will end up warping. If the rotor isn’t big enough it can end up warping fairly soon after driving. This component of an automobile is hooked on to the wheel next to the spindle. It will rotate simultaneously at the same speed that the car is being driven.

In order to keep a car running smoothly and braking effectively, it must be well maintained. A vehicle’s owner’s manual will have a schedule for all types of service including brake repair. If these items are properly serviced, they will last longer and keep all on or near the road safer. If a motorist does a lot of stop-and-go driving such as in a high traffic urban area with stop lights at every corner, they will need to have their vehicle’s halting system checked more frequently.
