These people fail to follow the guidelines set out in the owner's manual and, worse, they tend to ignore the warning signs their vehicle tries to give them that something is wrong. Does this describe you? If you hear a strange noise, do you listen to it for a few minutes and then blast the radio so it disappears from audibility? If you have a light colored driveway, you should always be on the lookout for stains underneath the space where you park. Strangely enough, a lot of people simply get used to seeing stains of this sort and figure it's no big deal, and it may very well not be. It could just be condensation from your radiator. But if there are dried, dark stains on the driveway, it means something is leaking from your vehicle, and this is never a good thing. Some people opt to get this done whenever they go in for an oil change, which is totally not the worst habit to get into in order to ensure equal wear. If you get into the habit of doing this, you won't have to worry as much about doing personal inspections on your tires' wear and tear, as the mechanic will be happy to do it for you.

Finally, get friendly with a good car repair shop. Nothing beats the relief of having a trustworthy, familiar place to go when you run into vehicle trouble. Most people go through an enormous amount of stress when their vehicle breaks down and a lot of that is centered around dealing with an unfamiliar shop that may or may not have your best interests at hand. If you have someone you can rely on beforehand, that part of the equation is already solved. Of course, an expensive bill may still be in your future, but at least you'll know everything on the bill is legitimate.
