Tips to protect battery of electric bikes and scooters in hot weather

If you maintain your electric vehicle's batteries on a regular basis, you may help the vehicle generate more performance while also extending the battery's life. Here are some essential suggestions for protecting your electric bike's battery in hot weather.

  1. Don’t always charge your battery to 100 percent. It is good if you have charged them 95 percent or 97 percent.
  2. If you are not going to use the battery or your e-scooter for a long time, it is advisable to keep some charge to the battery. In other words, don’t let the charge dry out and store it for a long time. This will degrade the battery life. Keeping a 30-50 percent charge is recommended.
  3. Avoid charging your EV battery when the temperature is above 40-50 degrees Celsius. It is advisable to charge or store batteries in mild or moderate temperatures. In case of storing batteries, keep them in a safe, dry, and cold place.
  4. Don’t drive your electric scooter during hot weather, which will generate immense heat that can destroy the battery or other components.
  5. Don’t keep your batteries under direct sunlight or in a place near extreme heat.
  6. Don’t put more weight on your electric bike beyond the permissible limit. More weight puts more pressure on the EV and battery.
  7. Do not attempt to check the battery on your own. Go to your dealer if the battery is sealed. Allow an expert from the manufacturer to inspect the battery if it is not sealed.
  8. Don’t wash your e-bike with salted or highly acidic water, which is very harmful to the battery and your e-scooter.
  9. Make it a practice to charge your battery at least once a day. It's fine to skip one or two days, but leaving the battery uncharged for several days is not.
  10. Don’t use third-party or unbranded chargers to charge your EV battery.
  11. Don’t drive your electric vehicle on bumpy roads or roads that are not smooth.
  12. Check your batteries regularly. It is always recommended to get them checked from the dealer only.
  13. If you want to swap batteries then follow the user’s manual to properly do the swapping or else take the help of a specialist.
  14. Finally, don’t let your batteries heat up to extreme levels. If you are driving long-distance at moderately high temperatures then take some rest to cool down the battery. This will not put extra load and heat on the battery.

The bottom line is that the batteries of electric vehicles are very delicate and prone to extreme climatic conditions. Hence, it is important to maintain and take care of them. Routine checking of batteries is very crucial to avoid any fire or damage incidents.
