Vehicle Preparation for Repainting a Car

It is one of the most important steps that considers car painting, actually a lot of people likes to say that 90 percent is preparation, and the rest is the actual car repainting. Even if you might get a professional paint job from carpaint shop that you prefer, it is good to prepare it for the car respray yourself and that way save some money and also in the same time you exactly know that car is prepared well for the job. To begin this process, firstly you should remove as much of the trim ass possible from all areas that will be painted. Trim, mirrors, bumpers, grille, and other exterior items are all included in that process. As you will be putting it all back later on, remember how everything comes off. Washing is the next step so use a sponge and car wash soap to remove any dust, dirt and other difficulties on the surface of the car. To get rid of any wax or road grime use wax amd grease. Then dry the car. On the areas that was not removed, use more thicker type of a tape so that it will protect these areas from the sanding which will be your next thing to do. Start sanding the old paint, using a 180 grit sandpaper. Always sand smoothly, to get rid of paint far to the point where you remove any possible scratches on it. For these use a dual-action orbital air sander, which is less likely to dig in than other sanders, but remember that you shouldn't use it too close to the trims and chrome as these areas will be hand sanded. Take a piece of sandpaper and fold it in half, then sand any areas that were missed. After sanding you can remove the tape that was applied before that. Blow all the sanding dust off the car with air hose and then mask off the car for the primer coat. With masking tape and paper, cover anything that should not be painted and do one more wipe-down just prior to applying the primer/filler coats. Apply several thin coats of a quality sandable primer/filler to the entire car. Allow this to dry completely. Wet sanding of the primer is done with 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper. Keep your sanding area wet. Remember, the smoother the surface is, the smoother the paint will go on later. Now just remove all masking tape and paper and thoroughly clean the car and then dry it. Like said before doing preparation work yourself can hugely benefit you. As cost of repainting a car differ, this way you will save up some money and got a great paint job guaranteed.
