Sleeping comfortably on your bed affects your health tremendously.  Health experts and doctors all over the planet agree that a human being requires roughly eight hours of sleep each and every single day.  This means that we spend roughly a third of our lives asleep.  It does not matter whether we receive sleep during the night or during the day time, just as long as we get the recommended amount of sleep time.

When we sleep we may seem on the surface as if we are completely at rest.  We seem as if there is no activity.  However, this is certainly not the case.  The conscious part of our mind man be completely off when we sleep, however, the subconscious part of our brain is a giant that never sleeps.  While we rest the subconscious part of our brain continues to organize our memories and forge new brain nerve paths, while eliminating others and reaffirming other ones.  Our brains are very active even though it may seem as if we are completely asleep.  Toxins that accumulate while we are awake and operating are flushed and removed from our brains as we rest.  While other more useful hormones such as endorphins, serotonin and dopamine are replenished since they get depleted while we are active.  That is the reason why we wake up from sleep feeling refreshed, reenergized and rejuvenated.

When we go without the recommended amount of rest, we accumulate what is known as a “sleep debt”.  A sleep debt is the difference between the amount of sleep that we should be getting and the amount of sleep that we are actually receiving.  For example, if you only sleep for three hours instead of the recommended eight hours, you accumulate a sleep debt of five hours.  It is not advisable to work and operate while owing a large debt to your bed.

In conclusion, it is important to acquire a quality bed and sleep on it.  It is a sure way to keep healthy and to keep the doctor away.
