Do animals suffer from ADD (attention deficient hyperactivity disorder)? It may sound funny,ADD - Veterinary Psychology and Corporate Anatomy Articles but the truth is that most corporate employees and most animals do suffer from attention deficient hyperactivity disorder.

Getting noticed, getting recognized and gaining the attention of others or appreciation of others are some of the basic psychological and physical needs every life forms on earth has.  Only difference is that different animal exhibits their attention needs in different ways and means when compared to man.   Seeking attention is although inevitable to some extent, but the urge for the above should naturally consummate with having or gaining the attention or recognition.  When the urge grows continuously beyond any measure and comprehension it compels the individual to seek attention of others through an array of abnormal actions/behaviour.

As a result of such continuous craving compel and guide the sufferer to exhibit bizarre behaviours that are abnormal, unusual and are quite repetitive in nature.  More often than not the sufferer believes that such unnatural ‘behaviour show’ will certainly be noticed by others.  Every unnatural display or behaviour requires unnatural energy or effort and that is what is defined as ‘hyperactivity’ disorder.

ADD is quite common in human world, but the question is do animals also suffer from such disease/disorder?  Animal psychology or veterinary psychology may be relatively in the nascent state, but many observational studies have shown that indeed many animals suffer from ADD.

Many birds, for example, the Cuckoo, Barbet and Bulbils etc. sing/make noise repeatedly is nothing but the sign of ADD only.  These animals spent a lot of their energy and are hyper active in making such sounds.  These birds also eat less or refuse to eat as their longing for attention is their much bigger need than the food need.

Many mammals during breeding season display various hyperactivity syndromes. They exhibit several unusual behaviours and activities just to win the mate.  Even in the domestic cow, such hyperactive behaviour can be seen during breeding season as well as during new moon or full moon days.

The behavioural response of male elephant during ‘musth’ period is nothing but the symptoms of ADD only.  Many studies have found that ‘musth’ is not linked to the sexual need of the animal. If it were so, why do such elephants even attack the female animals?  In Chimpanzees and Gorilla too, ADD like symptoms have been noticed.

The question is which group of people suffers the most from ADD in human world?  The answer would be the corporate employees and they suffer a lot with ADD.  Getting noticed that he or she is doing the job is the most important need than the result of the actual job in many corporate.  Every job done well or not and whether the job is big or small, people love to show it around in most corporate.

When most employees are suffering from ADD in many corporate, one noticing or recognizing the other is remote.  More or less, all are seekers and hence they continue to seek and none will be there to find or give.

The ADD may not be posing a major challenge in animal world but in human world, certainly it can create havoc.  Most corporate employees loose their harmony and inner peace mainly due to the lack of attention from others.

The disease ADD may have two subdivisions viz., behaviour related and mind related.  In corporate world, ADD is more relating to the behaviour.  In corporate, people desperately search for some registry to register what they have achieved.  Many smart bosses gently call people to assure them that they are noticing their good job. Many bosses also may seek attention from their subordinates.

Attend the people by noticing them and also tell them that you have been noticing them.  You can win many hearts by such gesture.
