Traditional cutting machines are mostly used for normal and routine work but when a special part is to be made or when complex parts are to be finished then EDM wire is used. Some manufacturers use two cutting methods all together as this procedure speeds up their pace of work. Cutting machines of traditional style perform all the general tasks on the work piece and leave those places which are unreachable. Those places are accessed through EDM wire method and through this method the metal is cut and prepared according to the design. That’s why after traditional machines have performed their tasks on work piece these are sent to EDM wire machine so that all the remaining processes can be performed on this piece. EDM machine is not only used for making, cutting and manufacturing but it also used to remove waste material from the work piece. EDM machine removes all the waste material from work piece is such a manner that it does not touch any part of the work piece which results in even and smooth surface. The electrical sparks through which cutting is done are totally controlled one and they are used in such a way that they do not destroy any part of original work piece. Liquid de-ionized water is used in this process so that the temperature of the metal can be maintained. WithEDM wire one can drill a hole or can even cut a metallic sheet of 300 mm only if it fulfills one condition.

EDM wire only cuts those metals which are electrically conductive; it doesn’t work on any other type of metal. Despite of this limitation it is a great invention as it saves the drilling cost and broken tools cost. When metals like hastalloy, titanium, inconel, hardened tool steel, carbide and kovar are to be cut in shapes then it is better to use EDM wire machining. These metals are very hard in nature and require great cost if are to be cut by traditional cutting techniques. EDM wire can make its way very easily through these metals as the electric sparks produced by two electrodes is very powerful. Because of these sparks EDM wire machine is also called spark machining because it cuts metal through a repetitive series of electrical sparks. A brass wire is used in this process which is connected with a container of special liquid that contains de-ionized water. This thread of brass wire is connected with two heads which directs this thread. Metal will be cut by this thread in that pattern which is given by the heads.
