Matriphagous,Sea louse to corporate management Articles or otherwise called the behaviour of young ones who kill and eat the mother, may seem strange or incredible but do exist in nature.  It is not about where, why and how it occur in nature, what management message it conveys to the corporate and its employees is the pivotal issue one needs to understand.

In the world of sea louse (a small crustacean), lady spider and hump earwigs, matriphagous behaviour is reported to exist.

In the case of sea louse, the eggs will hatch in the egg pouch in the mother, and then start eating the mother from inside.  By the time the young ones become fully matured, only the shell of the mother is left out.  The young ones grow at the expense of killing and eating the mother.

In the case of the lady spider, the young ones actively hunt and eat the mother.  The ‘food needs’ of the young ones during their early growth phase are met by being matriphagous.  The matriphagous behaviour of young ones of hump earwigs is also no way different from the lady spider.

Instead of asking the question of why it happens, what one can learn from the above should be the wise approach.  The evolutionary events that had triggered the matriphagous behaviour in these animals may be difficult to establish or even we gain some knowledge, it would be highly speculative or presumptive.  Let evolutionary biologist has their patent right on such exploration.

Corporate should establish a meaningful message from such strange behaviour in nature.  People love to claim their share in all the projects that has become success.  Whether they have contributed anything to the success of the project or not, but never fail to claim their share.  Even they claim their share on what others have achieved.

Look at the life of sea louse, lady spider or hump earwigs, how committed they are to the cause.  The ultimate goal of their birth is to produce the next generation.  That is the biggest project nature has assigned to them.  To make the project to become successful, they offer their life.

Once the project becomes a success, they are not there even to see it let alone make a claim on it.  Only success of the project and not the reward or appreciation is what all these little animals follow in life.

Corporate employees always try to know what they can claim from the success than what they should offer to make the success to happen.   In general, only the profit or gain or ‘what is there in it for me’ is what drives the corporate man and not the sense of commitment or duty consciousness.

Success demand sacrifice and commitment.  Corporate employees must get this message clearly.  The HR must be impartial, unbiased and genuine only then such culture can be nurtured and inculcated in the corporate.  Every life form on earth can provide powerful management message to the corporate provided they have the mind, ears and eyes to learn and understand.
