Xavier Pauchard started a company which specializes in producing galvanized sheet-metal domestic products in the Burgundian countryside of Autun shortly after World War I. He had predicted the benefits the galvanization process can give in the production of both outdoor and indoor furniture - the protection of an iron piece from oxidization by dipping it in a vat of molten zinc heated to a temperature of 450 degrees Celsius.

On July 1925, Xavier Pauchard changed his business into a small company with a shared capital of one million francs. Two years later, he had the Tolix brand enlisted which will be the trademark of his output of chairs, armchairs, metal chairs, and stools. Pauchard’s robust designs were introduced first to factories, offices, hospitals, and ships before becoming popular in the home market.

With his sudden death in 1948, Xavier Pauchard’s sons, Andre and Jean continued to run the company together until 1952, which they split into to two. Andre handled the part of the business which manufactures objects in metalworking industry named Reservoirs X.Pauchard. Jean had the Tolix Company, which was originally launched by their father.

Tolix prospered over the years. In 2006, Tolix was awarded the Living Heritage Award by the French Ministry. In 2011, it had profited over 7 Million Euros and had employed eighty people.The company's current management directress who handled the company since 2004, Chantal Andriot, had received the honors of being a Knight of the Legion of Honor in July 2011.Currently, Tolix is working with two designers, Eloi Chafai and Francoise Dingijan.

The One and Only A Chair

Tolix became an official brand of furniture in 1927. 7 years after, Xavier Pauchard made the legendary A chair which is now a fine model displayed in different design museums in many parts of the world. This chair is now a representation of many industrial designs. The things that make this chair a legend is its lightness, compactness, and most of all, its budgeted price.

The Redemption of the Locker

Tolix's designs for lockers in the 1930s which were originally produced for offices and shops have become trendy again due to our regained fascination with industrial designs. Today, these lockers are made more modern that revived Pauchard's cabinets, lockers, baggage lockers, and post office furniture. New colors have been added to suit every setting.

Also for the Children

Though originally designed for adults, the Tolix bar stools also became popular with the children. The company sold thousands of these chairs to France's army and air force back then. Today, these bar stools come in different colors of pink, blue, yellow, pink, and a whole lot more to suit your children's preferences. These chairs are convenient in children's rooms either paired with a desk or not due to their reasonable use of space.
