A state supported, two year public and historically black college, Bishop State community College is located in Mobile , Alabama , in United States . Predominantly black college in the small urban setting, with commuter campus, the college houses nearly 5000 degree seeking students forming diverse student community.

Brief History

Established in 1927 as b ranch of Alabama State College in Montgomery ,Bishop State Community College  Articles Alabama , the College offered extension courses for teachers for 9 years. Two year college was established in September, 1936. Declared as mobile center and state junior college in 1965, the college was named Mobile State Junior College and renamed as Bishop State Community College in 1989. Finally Alabama State Board of Education consolidated the Southwest State Technical College and Carver State Technical College into Bishop State Community College .

Campus

Six academic divisions in the college are education, humanities, natural science and mathematics, social science, health profession, and business and economics. Four technical divisions are workforce development, engineering and construction, commercial and industrial technology, and consumer and transportation technology.

Programs Offered

Security and Protective Services, Education, Personal and Culinary Services, Business, Management, & Marketing, Health and Clinical Sciences, and Computer Science are the major programs offered in the university. Distance education is also available.

Unique Features

Unique in study options, it is one of the universities having an accelerated program. Cross registration, dual enrollment for high schools students, internship, ROTC, honors program, and Weekend College are some of the student friendly features. Extensive early morning and evening classes, learning center, summer programs, reduced course load, remedial services and tutoring are other unique support offered.

Admission

Open admission policy is followed by the college. Transfer students are not ignored. However both SAT and ACT scores are important. Dual credit and advanced placements are accepted admission credits.

Student Support

Bishop State Community College offers career and employment counseling, PT cost defraying employment, on campus day care and on campus library facilities. Among other support programs are counseling or other types of support, Adult (re-entering) student services, Career Counseling, Employment Service, Freshman Orientation Program, Health Services, Personal Counseling, Placement Service and Veterans Counselor can help.

Financial Aids
