Due for release in the final quarter of 2010, the Motorola Milestone 2 looks set to be a sales success for the manufacturer.
Featuring a number of improvements in terms of both hardware and software over its predecessor, it retains the same design, the full QWERTY keyboard and touchscreen combo.
The Motorola Milestone 2 is relatively compact Smartphone measuring just 116.3x 60.5x 13.7 mm, and despite the extra technology; it is only 4 g heavier than its predecessor at just 169 g. The overall aesthetics seem rather more refined, certainly making it an attractive handset.
The handset utilises a 3.7 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen which boasts the ability to display up to 16M colours within a pixel layout of 480x 854. This results in outstanding display quality of photos, video footage and indeed the user interface. The slide out QWERTY keyboard has been improved with larger and higher quality buttons and the layout has been redesigned to make it more efficient. The screen features an accelerometer sensor, as well as a Swype text input.
Up to 40 GB of internal storage can be made available within the handset. This is thanks to 8 GB standard internal storage, along with a microSD card slot which comes with a pre-installed 8 GB memory card; however this can be increased by installing a card of up to 32 GB. Should users choose the latter option, this provides the Motorola Milestone 2 with some of the highest levels of internal storage currently available on a mobile phone.
Cellular networks are connected to thanks to class 10 GPRS and class 10 EDGE, whilst access to the Internet is provided via an HSDPA connection in areas covered by 3G. A faster Internet connection can be achieved however; thanks to built in Wi-Fi connectivity which takes advantage of local Wireless Networks are available. An interesting fact about the Motorola Milestone 2 is that it can actually be used for 3G tethering, which can be utilised by up to five additional devices.
An excellent 5 mega pixel digital camera is also included, which makes a number of improvements over previous model. Along with Autofocus, image stabilisation, and a dual LED flash, the camera now boasts the ability to shoot 720p HD video footage at 30 frames per second.
Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) is the operating system of choice, had which works superbly in conjunction with a 1 GHz processor. The improved computing power of this allows functions such as multitasking and the ability to view online flash content.
Loads of entertainment and social networking features are included as standard, as well as access to the Android Market, whereby users can browse and download thousands of apps in every conceivable category.
The Motorola Milestone 2 does a great job of combining superb aesthetics with extremely comprehensive functionality and versatility. Therefore it seems that this handset will be a force to be reckoned with, and offers a perfect alternative to mainstream Smartphones.
