It is normal situation, when you are choosing local consulting form for initial Corporate ERP implementation and you need their walk in consultants support for some time, while you are still in bumpy post-production procedures tuning, reports design and comparison.

However,Dynamics GP Implementation Phase Two Articles when you feel lesser and lesser dependency from incoming consultant, you may decide to check out other support options.  And it is also common, that in the phase two you would need something too challenging for local consulting firm, which is in constant new implementations cycle, and maybe less geared to do technology challenging custom projects.  Nationwide remote support providers are typically better equipped with Dexterity, eConnect, Visual Studio, VBA programmers and may have better exposure to various industries and phase two implementation specific.  Let’s review typical phase two and three scenarios and how they could be implemented and supported:

1. Logistics and Supply Chain Management.  It is important to look at simple options first, prior to engaging, let’s say scalable Warehouse Management software.  If you are stable business, chances are high that you already have something in production downstairs in your warehouse.  Evolution is not a bad idea.  Try to integrate existing system with your new ERP.  Can you export transactions into the text file?  Or can you expose your Inventory custom application database via ODBC?  If one of the answers is ‘Yes’, take a look at Integration Manager module, where you can setup pretty advanced integrations to move barcode scanned data into Sales Invoices, Purchase Receipts, Inventory adjustments, and many other types.  If you are small manufacturing firm and already have assembly operation automated in custom MS Access database – again, first advise would be considering to keep it and just integrate whatever comes out of your production system, integrate it in the form of Inventory Adjustment

2. Generic Customizations.  Real life is not always controllable and predictable, and we may not know what are your requirements, until we see them.  For you it might be something really unique, allowing you to compete on the market.  If this is the case, there are options to modify existing forms in Modifier with VBA scripts, as well as reshape the interface with such tool as Microsoft Dexterity.  If you are thinking about something like eCommerce or EDI integration – it might be simpler to do it directly via Integration Manager, or if you need it to be done with reduced budget, eConnect programming comes as viable option

3. Custom Reporting.  While standard financial reports, such as Balance Sheet, P&L are typically done in FRx or in new reporting tool – Microsoft Management Reporter, where generic GP consultant is comfortable to do the job, the phase two requests might be about managerial reporting.  Sales commissions, Project profitability, these might be considered as popular requests.  For managerial reports we recommend you to consider first to create report base in SQL Stored Procedure or View, test it to the satisfactory level and then build up the report itself in such tools as Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Crystal Reports, MS Access, Excel, or you name your favorite tool, open for ODBC or Native SQL driver connection to the MS SQL Server
