Dynamics GP US and Canadian Payroll module depends on current formula for the state, provincial, federal and local taxes, levied on payroll. If you are large organization, running payroll in Microsoft Dynamics GP, and if your employees reside in multiple states, you may need to update Payroll tax table up to seven times during calendar year, as it happened in 2008

Payroll tax update is normally simple routine,Great Plains Consultant Support: Payroll Tax Yearly Update Articles when you have current service plan with Microsoft Business Solutions through your Dynamics GP reseller or partner.  However in the time of economy slowdown, we see more and more GP customers, who are no longer active in Great Plains annual enhancement program.  If this is your case, you will need help in updating payroll tax tables in Great Plains.  Let’s come through highlights:

1.       GP versions currently supported.  These are Dynamics GP 10.0 and 9.0.  For these versions you should expect downloadable payroll tax update tables.  If you are not current in annual enhancement, you should ask your Great Plains VAR to help you with updates

2.       Unsupported versions.  These are 8.0, 7.5, 7.0, 6.0, 5.50, 5.0, 4.0 and earlier.  Here you should consider two possibilities.  If you are on Microsoft SQL Server database, then the option for your Great Plains VAR to update your Payroll tax tables is to apply update to their test company on GP 10.0 or 9.0 and then export this table with records and import it into different table on your old GP hosting SQL Server 2000, 7.0 or 6.5.  Then using SQL Query analyzer, consultant should analyze changes and additions to the records in each of four tables: UPR4130X.  In fact these tables have the same structure at list beginning with Great Plains 7.5.  Second possibility – you are on Pervasive SQL 2000/btrieve or Ctree database platform.  In the case, when you are on these non-MS SQL Server platforms, we recommend to use ODBC connection between Microsoft SQL Server, where you have GP 10.0 company (on GP consultant laptop) and ODBC connection via MS SQL Server linked Server to Pervasive SQL 2000 based company – you are ready to update Payroll Tax tables, they are located in Dynamics DB and System directory (btrieve/ctree)
