Are you one of those people, like me, that feel like throwing your computer out of the window sometimes and just wish you knew how to clean up your PC? Slow or bogged down computers can really get frustrating.

Are you one of those people,How to Clean Up Your PC Articles like me, that feel like throwing your computer out of the window sometimes and just wish you knew how to clean up your PC?  Slow or bogged down computers can really get frustrating...trust me, I know.  I have probably wasted a total of one month of my life just sitting in front of a computer, waiting.  This was until I took the time to learn how to clean my PC and maintain it so that it stays relatively fast.  I have over 6 Gigs of Hard Drive space and approx 3 Gigs of RAM (not too bad).  I do a lot of video editing work and I need a beefy computer to handle the data.

First things first...remove any programs that you are no longer using by going to the control panel and selecting Add/Remove Programs.  This is probably your biggest downfall.  I know that I have games that I haven't played in years on my computer that take up way too much space.

Secondly, perform a Dsik Cleanup by going to My Computer, right clicking and selecting Properties.  Then select Disk Cleanup for the hard drive that you are trying to free up.  This will get rid of files, mostly temporary ones that are no longer needed, but take up space.

Thirdly, perform a disk defragmentation.  Defrag men-what?  I know it sounds crazy, but it exists.  Go to the control panel and select Performance and Maintenance (XP).  The chose the option that starts with "Rearrange..."  This will put all of your files back in place that get spread out over time and cause your computer to take a while to open them.

Lastly, simply go through my documents, my photos, and my videos and delete stuff you don't need anymore and then Empty the Recycle Bin.  You'd be amazed at how much junk you have on your computer that you don't need at all or haven't used in months.

Now of course this is just a start on how to clean up your PC, but it is a good start and you should see a difference in your computer speed.
