Great Plains Dynamics GP implementation and following ongoing support typically require both functional and technical ERP consulting skills and experience,Microsoft Dynamics GP Support in Chicago IL Articles and these qualifications should be checked in Microsoft Dynamics GP Partner selection process.  Let's review Microsoft Dynamics GP technology aspects in reasonable details:

1. Great Plains Dexterity.  If you have challenging business processes that require special attention and business logic modification, Dexterity is one of the key tools you should check.  Dexterity allows you to integrate custom module directly into Dynamics GP user interface and security realm.  Dexterity, however is not recommended to in-house programming within your internal IT department, as it requires at least several years of Dexterity programming dedication, which is only possible for Dynamics GP technical consultant, who works at least five years for one of the leading Dynamics GP Partners.  Also Dexterity Software development is typically associated with Microsoft Dynamics GP Source Code Programming (where Great Plains Dexterity developer has access to Dynamics.dic with Dexterity Sanscript codes for original GP business logic present - normal Dynamics.dic has Sanscript codes stripped out)

2. eConnect.  This is SDK, replicating Dexterity logic in encrypted SQL Stored Procedures (from technology stand point, however eConnect is also new platform for reshaping such modules as Dynamics GP Integration Manager).  We are not sure about technology trend in the next ten years or so, but there is some chance that eConnect will be a way out of Microsoft Dexterity dependency for future versions of Microsoft Dynamics GP.  Well, back to the ground, eConnect was initially dedicated with Microsoft Great Plains version 7.0 to eCommerce programmers who needed to push eCommerce Shopping Cart transactions to Great Plains automatically

3. Modifier with VBA.  This technology is probably the simplest one to enable Dynamics GP user interface modification - Great Plains Modifier module is very intuitive and you can alter existing Dynamics GP screens, such as Sales Order Processing Transaction Entry, Inventory Item Maintenance, GL Transaction Entry and others by moving existing field to the new positions, adding new fields (which you can automate with VBA scripts, if you plan to update GP tables, you should use legacy Microsoft ADO technology)

4. Integration Manager.  Great Plains Integration Manager currently is under serious transformation, being reprogrammed in GP eConnect.  Traditional connectors based on legacy OLE Server technology are still available (at least for Microsoft Dynamics GP version 10.0 Integration Manager).  With eConnect connectors, IM resolved known issues with performance, and now you could rely on eConnect back ground speed to be similar to SQL insert statements (far exceeding Great Plains Dexterity cursors in former OLE connectors, where Dynamics GP workstation was used as OLE Server)

5. Supporting older versions of Great Plains in Chicago area.  Our Dynamics GP Partner organization is probably the only one supporting such old versions of Great Plains as Great Plains Accounting for DOS, Windows and Macintosh, where we should be able to do data repair, recovery and moving GPA from legacy Novell or Windows 2000 / NT server to Windows 2003 or even 2008 servers.  We are also supporting Great Plains Dynamics on Pervasive SQL Server 2000/Btrieve and Ctree.  Legacy Great Plains versions support service is available locally in Chicagoland as well as USA nationwide and internationally via web sessions and phone conferences

6. Complex FRx consolidated reporting for Dynamics GP.  We are specializing in international consolidate reporting, which is typically done in FRx for Microsoft Dynamics GP.  Frx supports Dynamics GP GL multicurrency (you should have FRx Professional version or FRx Currency Support module)

7. Dynamics GP Reporting.  If you are looking for pure Financial Reporting (Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss, Statement of Cash Flow), then we recommend you to stick to FRx Financial Reporting.  If you are modifying Sales Invoice form, Purchase Order or Merchandise Receipt with company logo, then Dynamics GP Report Writer is the way to go.  For industrial reports, such as Bill Of Lading, Agent Settlement Report, please consider either Crystal Reports or Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services

8. Dynamics GP Data Conversion.  Here we recommend you to deploy Dynamics GP Integration Manager module and do not populate SQL Server Dynamics GP company database directly via SQL insert statement or SQL stored procedure

9. If your Microsoft Dynamics GP implementation failed.  We recommend you do not give up - seek for second opinion.  Alba Spectrum specializes in complex Dynamics GP installations recovery

10. Alternatives to Microsoft Dynamics GP.  In this paragraph we are sort of a bit in conflict with Microsoft Business Solutions and we would like to recommend SAP Business One for your consideration
