Today,The Current Advancements And The Future Of EPOS Tills Articles more and more advancements are being made and used for electronic point of sale systems, or EPOS tills. From biometric scanners to Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags, the possibility about the future of EPOS technology is limitless. The sound of biometrics and RFID may sound too futuristic, but did you know that these advancements are actually being used by some businesses today?

The leading EPOS technologies that are used and being developed today are those that could help in the security of a particular EPOS. Two of which are biometrics and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags. If you are not familiar with biometrics, these are devices used as a particular method by measuring unique human characteristics like finger prints to verify the identity of a person. This type of technology is used by selected retailers to log into their EPOS software and for their customers who opt to do self-checkouts. Using this type of technology gives added security to a businesses’ EPOS tills, making sure that the person using it is authorized to log-in the system. This type of technology can reduce theft and errors made by customers and employees, respectively. By the use of a unique print, a customer can purchase his items by scanning his print on the scanner which will automatically send a signal to the system to charge his bill to his existing files of credit or debit cards. One successful company who uses this technology is Florists Transworld Delivery, a floral company in Illinois. However, the use of RFID or Radio Frequency Identification is now being developed by EPOS system companies. RFID hopes to replace bar coding in the future. The main advantages of using this kind of technology is that it can store high data capacity with no line requirements, that of which is needed in barcode scanners. In the future, RFID will be embedded as tags within the product or packages which will eliminate errors present in barcode scanners.

Another particular technological advancement that is gaining popularity is self-checkouts.  The use of self scanning checkout helps customers as they do their own transactions, usually in watchful eye of a staff. Through self-checkout EPOS tills, a person will be able to scan their own items, swipe their own cards, and do the bagging themselves. The process usually involves the customer to login an epos touch screen or by scanning the items first. Once they have begun scanning their items, a voice prompt delivers instructions for the customer to follow.

EPOS aims not only to enhance transactions and stock managements. Today, they are also used as promotional tools for businesses through Digital signage and advanced customer relationship marketing or CMR. Digital signage is used by retailers for the promotion and advertising of their products using touch screen EPOS. Through digital signage, a business can easily change signs to raise customer awareness with the current promotions or discounts offered by the store. The signage can be easily prompted to the EPOS tills depending on the time and date to when it has to be promoted or the system can also do it automatically for stocks that have to be sold-out as soon as possible. For example, whenever a customer swipes his credit card, a message will automatically appear on the screen to promote a certain product that has discount or promo. On the other note, CRM are tools used to keep in touch with your loyal customers. For example, whenever a person makes a transaction on a store, an e-mail or a text can be automatically sent to his or her e-mail address or mobile phone, leaving a “thank you” message.
