Jharkhand is the 28th state of India that came into existence after separating from Bihar on 15 November 2000. The city is Ranchi is the state capital. The name Jharkhand literally means ‘The Land of Forests’.

The state is extremely rich in the mineral resources. It accounts for almost 40% of the country’s coal reserves,The expanding scope of education in Jharkhand for a brighter future Articles 90% of cooking coal deposits, 40% of copper, 22% or iron ore, 90% of mica, besides huge deposits of bauxite, quartz and ceramics. It is home to the largest steel plant in Bokaro, apart from Jamshedpur being the city of TISCO and TELCO. 

Being an industrial hub, the state has witnessed migration of people from theadjoining states over the years. Hence,education in Jharkhandhas always been excellent. With time, it is only getting better.

Things are looking up in the state. According to the Economic Survey report, the average annual Gross State Domestic Product is growing at an average annual rate of about 8.17%. The government has identified road, energy, education, agriculture and health as thrust areas to give impetus to state’s growth.

Primary education in Jharkhand begins at the age of 5 years, with free and compulsory primary education available for all children up to age 14. Every school is affiliated to the state board of secondary education, CBSE or ICSE. State schools use Hindi as their medium of instruction. The rest of them use English instead.Jharkhand education systemfollows the 10+2 system of school education, after which students move to 3-year degree courses of higher education.

In order to improve the prospects ofeducation in Jharkhand, the Government has launched the SarvaShikshaAbhiyan. It is an extensive scheme adopted by the Government and is carried out to universalize primary education in every nook and corner of the state.

On May 2008, Jharkhand became the first in India to introduce free haircuts for poor students. 40,000 barbers will be employed with a monthly salary of Rs. 1000.

There are about 21,386 schools in the widespread network of government and private schools. Some of the most prominent schools are:
