More than 25 top wrestlers from the indie and pro wrestling circuits will come together at a unique summer festival like no other. Proof? The top wrestlers also include some fans -- there's female mud wrestling,
too! The summer festival in question is the annual Gathering of the Juggalos, a four-day event in Cave in Rock, Ill.
It's largely a music festival; the "juggalos" in question are fans of the Detroit underground rap duo Insane Clown Posse. But fans of the group know that the members first bonded over their shared love of top wrestlers (and female mud wrestling, too, most likely), so this summer festival has always featured the sport prominently.
One of this years' most unexpected top wrestlers is Chyna, who wrestled for the WWE for more than a decade before retiring. She returned to wrestling this year, and her performance at the summer festival will be one of her biggest comeback gigs. (No, she won't be participating in the female mud wrestling!)
Other top wrestlers from the WWE include Hacksaw Jim Duggan and Scott Hall. Even the goofy U-Gene will appear (though he now wrestles for Juggalo Championship Wrestling).
Besides WWE vets, the summer festival also features top wrestlers who have performed in other promotions like TNA, NWA, and ECW. Among these are Terry Funk, the Rock 'n Roll Express, and Raven. Of course, fans of top wrestlers know that Raven also now wrestles for JCW!
Another way this summer festival stands apart is its respect for backyard wrestling and female mud wrestling. Backyard wrestling is featured throughout this summer festival. In the main ring are a few performers who came out of backyard and then hardcore circuits, like Necro Butcher. Fans can also participate in backyard wrestling of their own at various points throughout the summer festival.
Some of the craziest stuff goes on at the female mud wrestling. This is far more loosely organized, and almost anyone can participate in the female mud wrestling.
Sometimes the female mud wrestling also takes the form of female oil wrestling, depending on whatever's handy. Though the Juggalo Gathering is family-friendly, often, the female mud wrestling is an adults-only event -- clothes are known to come off!
