NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Mila Gerasimova in Illumination: An Exhibition of Fine Art Photography. The exhibition opens October 20, 2017 and runs through November 9, 2017 with an opening reception on Thursday, October 26 from 6-8 pm.
Russian American artist Mila Gerasimova combines photographic images with oil and acrylic painting to create a surrealistic artistic style that’s highly emotive and totally new. Her use of double exposure in her photographs, which are then transposed onto painted images, yields artworks that are haunting, otherworldly, and utterly poignant. Natural subjects and landscapes are juxtaposed against human faces, demonstrating a human consciousness that is ancient, deep, and far beyond the superficial trappings of our modern culture.
Inspired in particular by the Renaissance masters (including Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael), Gerasimova takes the rich legacy of this painting period and applies it to a world of fantasy and imagination that peers closely at the depths of the human psyche. Gerasimova shows us that the unexplored terrain within the human mind is vast and that there is so much yet to be uncovered and understood.
Mila Gerasimova currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
