What is a archangel?.

Archangel is the name of a large section, or province, in the northern part of Russia. Unfortunately, Archangel is so far north that it is very cold, and from late September until spring it is frozen and icebound. The province of Archangel includes Russian islands in the Arctic Sea. More than a million people live in the province.

Those who live in the most northern part are the peoples called Lapps and Samoyeds. These people keep herds of reindeer, from which they get their food and clothing. It is also the name of the chief city of this province, which is one of the great seaports of Russia. During World War II, most of the war materials sent by the United States to Russia were landed at Archangel.
