Generally, most cases of missed miscarriage have happened during the first 12 weeks of fetal gestation only. The common causes of missed miscarriage are discussed below:
  • Occurring particularly during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, fetus chromosomal abnormalities may be the cause of missed miscarriage. This can be caused due to various factors like abnormal fetus cell division, poor quality of ovum or sperm, or genetic abnormalities in either father of mother
  • Certain infections like Cytomegalovirus, Chlamydia, Syphilis, Genital Herpes, Rubella, or Toxoplasmis can be the causes of missed miscarriage
  • Abnormal Uterine Anatomy
  • Systemic illness like untreated diabetes or thyroid, abnormal hormonal levels in mother, substance abuse, immune disorders
The important missed miscarriage symptoms are outlined as follows:
  • Particularly during the early weeks of gestation, there are initially no symptoms of missed miscarriage. However, vaginal bleeding in the form of dark brown spotting is often experienced by some women. But this is also not a definitive sign of miscarriage
  • Passing of blood clots through vagina
  • Pelvic or lower back pain and cramping
  • Fatigue, breast tenderness, nausea
  • Lack of fetal heartbeat
  • Lack of growth of the uterus
