So you have found yourself in Boston looking for a Back Bay Restaurant to satisfy your Italian craving. What to do? What to look for? How do you spot the best Italian cuisine around? Italian is a personal favorite of mine, and it causes me to be extremely critical of Italian restaurants. I ensure that I identify and keep an eye out for all the signs of an Italian restaurant that deserves a reservation. Here are a few things that I like to focus on when we are looking for some fresh, tasty Italian food. I always make sure to find out whether or not the restaurant is family owned or a chain. The quality and offerings of pizza, pasta, deserts, and wine’s is also a crucial factor in choosing an Italian restaurant.
Perhaps one of the most important factors to me is the ownership of the restaurant. There is a fine line between family owned and chain Italian restaurants. To some it depends what you are in the mood for. Personally I prefer family owned Italian restaurants over chain restaurants. There is simply a different quality in the dishes you are presented with at a family restaurant. There is a different taste, almost as if you can taste the care, and time that was put into creating every aspect of your meal. The sauce, the meat, and the seasonings, are made with a unique and delicious flavor. There are times when I’m looking for the good ole generic, standard taste, but when it comes to Italian I want it to be just like mamma makes it.
Another major must have in any Italian Back Bay Restaurant is the pizza. I do not know about you, but I am tired of the five dollar cardboard pizza that you get at most places. An Italian restaurant ought to have some unique recipes with all sorts of ingredients and fantastic creations to twirl and entertain my taste buds. I personally like a thin, well done pizza. Everyone has their own taste to it, but regardless the crust along with the toppings should be thoroughly baked. When I eat an Italian pizza, I don’t want to have any thoughts of it being American.
If you are a true Italian fan, I know you’re going to be looking for some of that zesty Italian spaghetti. Look out for the ziti sauce and gravy. My number one pet peeve when it comes to pasta is when it comes out chewy, and tasteless. No matter your choice, Italian cuisine has a certain zest about it. Zest to Italian is like mojo to Austin Powers, without it, it’s just ordinary. Italian chefs just have a certain way they go about everything they make, their deserts, and their wines, all of it is unique and special. Your Italian experience should be exciting for you. Dive head first into all the items you have never tried before. Please be sure to research your venue when looking for Italian food at a Back Bay Restaurant.
