Herbs are plants used for food and medicine. Paleo diet recipes includes nutritious herbs.  The beauty of herbs is that they can be grown in small spaces in the home or in the garden. Cinnamon: Dried herb used in baking and desserts. Also great topping ice cream shakes and egg nog.

Dill: Dill seeds accent meat, poultry, fish and salads. Meat, cucumbers and cabbage can be dilled.

Garlic: Herb member of onion family. Used for centuries for food and medicinal purposes.

Mint: Green leave herb. Varied cooking used in dessert, shakes, and drinks and baking.

Parsley: Popular herb that can be used in variety of ways. Can be used in fruit and vegetable salads, sandwiches, soup and gravy.

Peppermint: Can be used fresh or dried. Used in candies and toothpaste. Dried use as spice for drinks, desserts or as a tea. Peppermint has medicinal properties. Invasive plant and grows easily. As a companion plant grown around roses help keep aphids from roses.

Sage: Can be used fresh or dried in poultry, soup, stews and vegetables.

Spearmint: Popular herb used in toothpaste and mouth wash. Use fresh or dried as food spice or teas. Centuries used for food and medicinal uses. Small herb grows from mid summer to mid fall can reach heights of 13" to 18" and produces small blooms. Does well in cooler temperatures and needs approximately 6 hours of direct light per day. Spearmint has a milder flavor than peppermint.

Grilled Peach, Strawberry, Walnut Arugula Salad

Ingredients:

- 3 cups fresh Arugula

- 1 1/2 cup fresh strawberries, sliced

- 3/4 cup slice peaches (peaches cut in 1/8)

- 1 1/2 cup walnuts soaked

- 2 tbsp. virgin coconut oil

- 1 tsp cinnamon

- 1 tsp nutmeg

Preparation:

- Wash arugula and strawberries and set aside to dry.

- Cut strawberries in quarter or halves

- Slice walnuts in halves

- Sauté sliced fresh peaches. Sauté in virgin coconut oil until tended and set aside

- Mix arugula, strawberries, walnuts, cinnamon and nutmeg

- Top salad with sautéed (grilled peaches) and add balsamic dressing of choice.

- Paleo Balsamic Dressing Recipe: In a small bowl combine olive oil, balsamic vinegar and honey. Combine dressing ingredients to taste. Orthodox Paleo diet does not allow honey.
