With the economy feeling decidedly unsettling and the environment apparently in free-fall there are lots of reasons to stop wasting things:

  • Food wasted and sent to landfill creates methane causing a real impact on the greenhouse effect of global warming.
  • Any food that you purchase and then ditch without consuming has also wasted huge amounts of water taken to grow the food in the first place.  That water will have been filtered and pumped for no reason at all.
  • That food used lots of oil based resources too.  Just think of all the petrochemical fertilizers and pest control agents used to produce that item you are about to discard.
  • Then there's the energy used to process that food item.
  • The petrol used to transport it.
  • The plastics and metals and papers and so on used to wrap it.
  • Then there's your time buying and preparing it.
