The main reason for conducting the procedure is relieve pain or in case of a fracture. Hip Replacement is one of the commonest procedures carried out today. You can have a hip replacement here with special care and treatment.

What are the different types of Hip Replacement surgery in India?

There are mainly two types of Hip Replacement surgeries in India;

  • Total Hip Replacement. In this procedure,Hip Replacement Treatment In India Articles the acetabulum and the femoral head are both replaced and the procedure is also known as total hip arthroplasty
  • Hip Hemiarthroplasty. It is where one half of the hip joint replaced (the head of femur) while the other half is left intact. It is done to replace the head of the femur when the blood supply is disrupted by a fracture.

Who are the Hip Replacement candidates?

Hip replacement can be a life changing procedure for the right patients and for the existing conditions. You can look at the below points to find out whether you are a candidate or not

  1. Bone damage. When x-rays and other tests taken before show that you are osteoarthritis or when other conditions are a threat to your joint
  2. When there is no change in the patient’s condition brought about by use of non-surgical treatments for example physical therapy, steroidal-anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), steroid injections or use of a walker.
  • Deformity. This can be a main reason for a hip replacement since it affects one’s lifestyle and confidence
  1. Effect on daily activities or life. You can consider having a hip replacement when the pain or fracture limits your ability of performing normal activities. This can also be due to pain
  2. Joint degeneration. When joint degeneration has caused stiffness and pain that affects the patient’s motion during normal activities.

NOTE

Not all patients are eligible for hip replacement since it can increase the risks of post-surgical complications. Take a look below;

  • In case a patient has had or is having an infection it is not advisable to get a hip replacement as this can cause the infection to spread after the surgery.
  • Bones can be too fragile or weak to support the new joint prostheses
  • Follow-up on smokers and tobacco users is highly required since risks after surgeries tend to increase.
  • Other factors. Patients who may not handle pre and post surgical instructions may not also go ahead with the procedure.

What to expect after a Hip Replacement procedure

A study on men and women who have gone under this procedure has showed a difference in the outcomes experienced.

A research from the University of Illinois at Chicago looked at one hundred and twenty four individuals before and one year after undergoing total hip arthroplasty to examine why gender-based differences always emerge in patients after the surgeries.

It was shown that the biochemical factors associated with pain and functional movements differ between men and women. Women who reported a good recovery had greater abductor strength improvement and better abductor function during movements.

This gives questions as to why women experienced the above and yet men didn’t.
