During game play Halo Wars requires players to produce resources at the beginning of each level in order to build posts and muster your army. Some of the objectives in the campaign mode for Halo Wars are quite similar to the campaigns in Halo 3 Xbox 360. However campaign mode in Halo Wars puts more emphasis on these objectives than it does on building bases giving players more action and less drudgery. The objectives include escort missions, recapturing lost bases, defending bases, and all out assault.

The Halo Wars Xbox 360 option of using cooperative campaign missions is a new feature that is fun and beneficial. Players can choose to play the campaign cooperatively with another player, or co-command a difficult mission. Co-op play allows players to share resources, share command, and access each other's buildings and units.

Halo Wars provides new challenges and a great back-story for Halo 3 fans, as well as being easy to learn and follow for players who are new to Halo.
