What’s the craziest thing you’ve put in your home? I used to collect hub caps and road signs as a teenager and therefore my bedroom looked like a cross between a motor museum and the set of Mad Max 2. As a homeowner one finds oneself veering constantly between the safe and tasteful and beige and the urge to take the plunge and be exotic and daring. A good way of being daring without breaking the bank and doing irreversible harm to your surroundings is to adorn a wall or nine with a digitally printed wallpaper mural.

Once upon a time a wallpaper mural was very expensive and therefore usually only found in commercial settings or the homes of successful cocaine dealers. Now,Wallpaper Murals - Daredevils Only? Articles thanks to the ever decreasing costs of digital design and printing, one need not be a menace to society or estate agent to have a tropical island on your wall.

Thanks also to our friend the internet we have further advantages over our interior designing forebears. The availability of ready-made copyright free images on various image sharing sites mean there’s practically an infinite number of images to choose from at the click of a mouse. Another advantage is the large number of online firms who can take your order without you having to leave your chair.  Lastly, thanks to the world of digital photography, you can have your very own beautiful features turned into a bespoke wallpaper mural that no one else will ever have. Costs for having something unique made will not be very much more than an off-the-shelf option.

Of course, you may prefer to go with a design offered by one of these many online firms; they’ve trawled the web on your behalf and know what works. Make sure you know the dimensions and allow a little extra on all sides just like you would with regular paper.

Having discovered all this for myself I decided to go crazy and put up lots of ‘em. Here’s what I chose. In the living room I picked a summer meadow scene with a track winding through a field into the distance – very relaxing. In the bedroom I covered a whole wall with oversized printing typeface blocks –  dramatic and exciting. In the kitchen I have one of those silver American diner things – at night and in the snow. Lastly, in the hallway I’ve got a 15 foot long by 11 foot high picture of my ugly face.

I shall be very surprised if I’m ever burgled.
